lumin de lumine - Ken McMullen

I started this project by looking at creation myths. After looking at some more established traditional creation stories I looked into the Big Bang theory. This led more onto the Non-Local Universe and Particle Physics.

More investigation led onto the CERN centre and to a piece of video artwork made by Ken McMullen - 'Lumen de Lumine'. THis video piec shows a women with a red dress holding a ball of light on a teher, spinning around. The bisual effect of this is she is both light & dark, red & black, she embodies these contradictions 'two sides of the same coin', good and evil, life and death. Furthermore surrounding her is a metal circle on the floor the same diameter as the tether. The effect of this links the light to the circle. The overall look look is that of a cell. In addition to this the same image is displayed side by side simultanouesly carrying out the same actions linked but not connected to each other like the light particles carried out in Aspect and Gisin's famous experiments.

Aspect and Gisins experiments consisted of 'tumbiling' together light particels then seperating at the smallest size known (quanta) by seven miles. Next the made changes to one quanta which had ab immediate effect upon the other quanta even although the were no longer connected. This they claimed proved that everything in the universe is connected.

They went further, experiments later proved that quanta existed in a dual nature as both a particle and a wave form. Whilst measuring this they made the startling discovery that they could alter the outcome of experiments even after the event by thought.

Measuring quanta can only be done by measuring the effect it has had on its environment. In effect you don't measure or see the quanta itself you measure the traces it leaves behind.
